🐾 How an 8-Month Flea Collar Saved My Dog (and My Sanity)
By: Sarah Thompson, Calgary, Alberta
I’m not ashamed to admit I was at my wits’ end.
My dog Rex is a big-hearted Labrador retriever who never met a mud puddle he didn’t love. Last spring, it wasn’t the mud that tested us—it was the fleas.
It started slowly. I noticed him scratching a little more than usual. At first, I thought maybe it was just seasonal allergies. But by the second week, he was chewing at his skin so frantically that I could hardly sleep for worrying. I vacuumed every day, washed all the bedding, and tried three different flea treatments—sprays, spot-on drops, even an herbal shampoo my neighbor recommended. Nothing worked for long.
Rex was miserable, and honestly, so was I. It broke my heart to see him so uncomfortable. His coat lost its healthy shine, and he seemed constantly tired and anxious. Every time I thought we had it under control, I’d find another flea or see a new red patch where he’d been biting himself. The endless cycle of treatments, baths, and cleaning was exhausting—and expensive.
I felt like a terrible pet parent. No matter what I did, I couldn’t give Rex the relief he deserved.
Then, one evening, I was talking to a fellow dog owner at the park, and she mentioned a flea collar that lasted up to eight months. I’d always assumed flea collars were old-fashioned and probably not very effective, but she swore this one had kept her two golden retrievers flea-free all year. She even pulled back her dog’s collar to show me—no irritation on the skin, just a simple gray band that had been working quietly the whole time.
I was skeptical but desperate. I went home and did my research. The reviews were overwhelmingly positive: pet parents praising how easy it was to use, how it started working within days, and how it saved them from the stress of constant treatments. I ordered one the same night.
I can’t tell you how relieved I was when Rex finally got some peace.
The collar arrived in a small, sealed package. It was lightweight, adjustable, and completely odorless—nothing like the heavy, chemical-smelling collars I remembered from years ago. Rex didn’t mind me putting it on at all.
Within days, the scratching slowed down. By the end of the first week, it stopped completely. I kept checking his coat, half-expecting to see more fleas, but they were simply gone. It felt like we’d finally broken free of the cycle. No more nightly battles with sprays and shampoos. No more guilt watching Rex suffer. No more throwing money at products that didn’t work.
The best part? It’s been five months since we put that collar on, and he’s still flea-free. I know it’s rated for eight months of protection, but if you ask me, it’s worth it for even half that time.
I can finally breathe again. Rex is back to being his goofy, happy self—rolling in the grass, chasing tennis balls, and coming home without a single unwanted hitchhiker. His coat looks shiny again, and he sleeps peacefully through the night.
I never thought a simple collar could make such a difference. But this one did.
If you’re where I was—tired, frustrated, and worried about your dog—please know there is a solution. Sometimes, the simplest option is the one that finally works.
Stay hopeful, stay patient, and don’t give up. Your dog deserves relief, and you deserve peace of mind.
